Aluminum Silicate

A naturally occurring or synthetic aluminum-silicon mineral used as an absorbent, bulking agent, and texture modifier in powders and creams.

What it is

Aluminum silicate is an inorganic mineral composed of aluminum, silicon, and oxygen, closely related to clay minerals. In cosmetics it is used as an absorbent and filler that helps take up excess oil, add bulk and opacity, and improve the slip and feel of powders and emulsions. It also contributes to a soft, matte finish and helps suspend pigments.

Safety & warnings

Aluminum silicate and related clay minerals have a long history of cosmetic use and are generally considered inert and well tolerated. As an inorganic mineral it is not a fragrance allergen and is not associated with comedogenicity from oils.
