Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Crosspolymer

A synthetic crosslinked associative polymer used in sunscreens as a thickener and emulsion stabilizer that builds viscosity and a smooth, gel-like texture.

What it is

This is a high-molecular-weight crosspolymer built from an acryloyldimethyltaurate backbone combined with a hydrophobically modified beheneth-25 methacrylate segment. The hydrophobic side chains let it act as an associative rheology modifier, so it thickens water phases and stabilizes oil-in-water emulsions while giving a light, non-tacky slip. In sun care it helps suspend mineral filters, control flow, and deliver an even, cushiony spread.

Safety & warnings

As a large crosslinked polymer it is not appreciably absorbed by skin and is generally well tolerated, with a low likelihood of irritation or sensitization. It is not a known fragrance allergen and is not an oil, so comedogenicity is not a typical concern.
