What it is
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder is produced by drying and grinding the leaves of the tea plant into a fine particulate. It contributes polyphenols, notably catechins, that act as antioxidants, and the powder form can also lend a soft, matte feel and light color to a formula. In sunscreens it usually appears at low levels as a marketing-forward botanical and texture modifier rather than as a primary active.
Safety & warnings
Generally well tolerated in topical use. As an insoluble plant powder it can occasionally cause minor grittiness or mechanical irritation in sensitive individuals, and like any botanical it carries a small potential for contact sensitivity. It is not a recognized fragrance allergen.

Is this the same as matcha?
It is closely related; matcha is a powdered green tea, and cosmetic green tea leaf powder is a similarly milled form of the same plant used as a skincare additive.
Does it provide sun protection on its own?
No. It is a botanical additive valued for antioxidant content and texture, not a UV filter, and does not contribute measurable sun protection.
