What it is
Ceteth-3 is cetyl alcohol reacted with about three units of ethylene oxide. With only a few ethylene oxide units it is relatively oil-loving and is typically paired with a higher-ethoxylated partner such as Ceteth-5 or Ceteth-25 to build a balanced emulsifier system. In sunscreens and creams it helps stabilize emulsions and contributes a soft, conditioned feel.
Safety & warnings
Ceteth-type emulsifiers are widely used and generally well tolerated. As ethoxylated materials they are purified to limit residual 1,4-dioxane. They are not fragrance allergens.
