What it is
This is the same material as lemon fruit juice, listed under the INCI form that includes the common name in parentheses. It is the liquid pressed from lemon fruit, carrying water, sugars, citric and other organic acids, and trace vitamins. In cosmetics it is generally used at low levels as a botanical conditioning ingredient and citrus accent.
Safety & warnings
As with all citrus juices, the natural acids and fragrant citrus constituents can irritate or sensitize some skin, especially when compromised. Photosensitizing furocoumarins are more associated with citrus peel oils than juice, but care is sensible for reactive skin. Low cosmetic use levels are usually well tolerated.
