What it is
Citrus paradisi fruit extract is derived from grapefruit and contributes naturally occurring constituents such as ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and flavonoids that act as antioxidants. In skin care it is used as a conditioning and freshening botanical and is sometimes included for a brightening or toning impression. In sunscreens it appears as a minor botanical and does not contribute to UV protection.
Safety & warnings
Generally well tolerated at cosmetic use levels. Citrus extracts can be a source of sensitivity for some users, and certain citrus-peel-derived materials contain phototoxic furocoumarins; fruit (pulp) extracts are lower in these than peel or expressed oils, but fragrance-sensitive or reactive individuals may still want to patch test. It is not an oil and is not considered comedogenic.
