What it is
This ingredient is an extract of tangerine (Citrus tangerina) that contributes flavonoids, vitamin C and other water-soluble plant constituents. It is included as a supporting botanical for its conditioning and antioxidant character and its light citrus note. In sunscreens it is present at low levels and is not a UV filter; green (unripe) tangerine extracts are popular in brightening-oriented Korean formulas.
Safety & warnings
Tangerine fruit extracts are generally well tolerated, though citrus-derived materials can contain fragrance components such as limonene that may bother fragrance-sensitive skin. Fruit extracts carry less phototoxicity concern than expressed peel oils.
Origin & sourcing
Natural; obtained from tangerine fruit (Citrus tangerina), including green/unripe fruit, by aqueous or solvent extraction.
