What it is
This extract is prepared from the peel of the satsuma mandarin, a citrus widely grown in Korea and Japan. The peel is a source of flavonoids such as hesperidin and nobiletin, which contribute antioxidant character. In cosmetic formulas it is used as a soothing, conditioning botanical rather than as a fragrance oil or a UV filter.
Safety & warnings
As a peel extract rather than an essential oil, it carries less concentrated volatile fragrance constituents, but it may still contain trace citrus compounds; fragrance-sensitive individuals should remain mindful. It is generally well tolerated at the low levels used in cosmetics, and patch testing is reasonable for very reactive skin.
