What it is

When dispersed in water it swells and forms a thixotropic gel network, which lets formulators thicken lotions, keep mineral pigments and inorganic UV filters evenly suspended, and improve the spreadability and stability of emulsions. In sunscreens it helps prevent settling of particles such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and contributes a smooth, non-greasy feel.
