What it is
Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin) is a synthetic emollient made by polymerizing short-chain olefins and then hydrogenating the result to a fully saturated, stable hydrocarbon. It provides a smooth, non-greasy slip and a light-to-medium cushion depending on grade, and its inertness makes it resistant to oxidation. In sunscreens and sticks it is used as an emollient and to help dissolve and carry oil-phase ingredients.
Safety & warnings
As an inert, fully saturated synthetic hydrocarbon it is generally well tolerated and low in irritancy and sensitization potential. It contains no fragrance allergens. Heavier grades, like other rich emollients, could feel occlusive on very oily skin, but the material itself is chemically stable and non-reactive.
