What it is
Mangifera Indica Seed Oil is a fatty oil expressed from the kernel inside the mango stone, rich in oleic and stearic fatty acids. It is a rich, cushiony emollient that softens skin and helps reduce the feeling of dryness, and in firmer fractions it behaves as a butter. In sunscreens it contributes a conditioning, moisturizing skin feel and helps carry the oil phase.
Safety & warnings
Mango seed oil is generally well tolerated and considered to have a relatively low tendency to clog pores compared with some other heavy plant oils, though as a rich fatty material it may feel heavy on very oily or breakout-prone skin. Because it is a tree-seed derived fat, those with relevant plant allergies should use caution.
Origin & sourcing
Natural; cold-pressed or extracted from the seed kernels of the mango fruit, a tropical tree cultivated widely in South and Southeast Asia and other warm regions.
Questions everyone asks
Is mango seed oil the same as mango butter?
They come from the same mango kernel; the more solid, butter-like fraction is often called mango butter, while the liquid fraction is the oil.
Will mango seed oil clog pores?
It is generally considered relatively low on the comedogenic scale, but as a rich oil it can feel heavy on very oily or acne-prone skin.
