What it is
Oryza Sativa Cera is a vegetable wax recovered from the oil of rice bran, the outer layer of the rice grain. It is solid at room temperature and is added to anhydrous and emulsion formulas to raise melting point, build viscosity, and stabilize the structure of sticks and balms. It also contributes a light, non-greasy slip on application and helps lock other emollients into the formula.
Safety & warnings
Rice wax is generally well tolerated and is not considered a common sensitizer. As an inert structuring wax it is low risk for irritation, though its waxy, occlusive nature means heavy use in rich formulas may feel heavy on very oily or acne-prone skin.
