What it is
PEG-7 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is produced by hydrogenating castor oil and reacting it with about seven ethylene oxide units. The result is a nonionic surfactant that emulsifies oils and helps solubilize lipophilic ingredients such as fragrances and oil-soluble UV filters into water-based systems. It also lends mild emollient character to the finished product.
Safety & warnings
Ethoxylated castor oil derivatives are generally well tolerated and mild at cosmetic use levels, with low irritation potential. It is not a recognized fragrance allergen, though it is frequently used to carry fragrance and other oils. As a PEG-modified ingredient, residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane are controlled during production.
