What it is
Polysilicone-1 Crosspolymer is a more highly crosslinked version of a Polysilicone-1 network, often supplied as a swollen gel in a silicone or ester carrier. It is used to thicken oil phases, give body to the formula, and impart a soft, powdery or velvety afterfeel. In sunscreens it helps build a smooth, even film and can improve the cushion and slip of the product.
Safety & warnings
As a large crosslinked silicone, it does not meaningfully penetrate the skin and is generally well tolerated. It is not a recognized fragrance allergen and is not a comedogenic oil; silicones are generally considered low risk for clogging pores in normal use.
