What it is
Potassium cocoyl hydrolyzed collagen is made by attaching coconut-derived fatty acid groups to fragments of hydrolyzed collagen protein and forming the potassium salt. This protein-fatty-acid structure makes it an amphoteric, mild surfactant that can cleanse gently while also conditioning the skin surface. In sunscreens and skincare it is used at low levels for its mildness and its smoothing, conditioning afterfeel.
Safety & warnings
Protein-based mild surfactants of this type are generally well tolerated and are favored in gentle formulations. It is not a recognized fragrance allergen. Because the collagen portion is commonly animal-derived, it is generally not suitable for products marketed as vegan.
