What it is
This ingredient is the liquid collected after Saccharomyces yeast ferments an extract of potato. Potato is rich in starch and sugars, which the yeast metabolizes into smaller compounds such as amino acids and organic acids during fermentation. The resulting filtrate is used in the water phase of products, including sunscreens, as a conditioning and moisture-supporting agent.
Safety & warnings
Generally well tolerated as a leave-on cosmetic ingredient at typical low concentrations. As a botanical ferment it carries the usual low potential for irritation or sensitivity in reactive individuals. Being water-based, it is not considered comedogenic.
