What it is
Vetiver oil is a viscous, earthy-woody essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the roots of vetiver grass. In cosmetics it is used chiefly to impart or round out fragrance and to provide a masking, conditioning effect. Like other essential oils it is a complex mixture of volatile aromatic compounds, so it is typically used at low levels in a sunscreen and does not contribute to UV protection.
