What's the difference between 40-minute and 80-minute water resistance?
The number is how long the labeled SPF is shown to hold up during water immersion in standardized testing — 40 or 80 minutes. After that window the protection can drop sharply, so reapply. No sunscreen is 'waterproof' or 'sweatproof'; the FDA prohibits those terms because protection always washes and rubs off.
Do I still need to reapply water-resistant sunscreen?
Yes. Even an 80-minute water-resistant formula needs reapplication after that time in water, and immediately after toweling off, which physically removes the film. As a rule, reapply roughly every two hours of sun exposure and after every swim or heavy sweat session.
